Glide wants my FB data

I try out a lot of applications but if I don’t personally know the developer, I don’t want to give any app access to my facebook profile.  Even though I share a lot on social networks and on the internet I still value privacy.  Giving access to facebook, to me, is a huge leap in faith.  You’re generally giving up access to your friends, their information, your timeline, and a lot of personal information (whatever you’ve place on facebook).

Glide looks like an interesting new application and I’d like to try it but I’ve stopped before starting.  The first step says “get started now with Facebook” which says to me “get started by giving me a TON of personal data… seriously, trust me”

Sorry Glide – until I trust you, you can’t have access to FB and since that’s my only sign up option – you’re being deleted.

Twitter brings together fan and Steelers receiver Antonio Brown

I knew Antonio Brown was cool and this just proves it -

Check this CNBC article discussing how when Mr. Brown arrived in Indy before the Superbowl, he tweeted about his arrival there.  A Steeler fan in Indy replied that he lived there and invited Antonio to lunch.  They commenced with some direct communication and, after a while, decided to meet.  What follows is almost unbelievable and really speaks to the direct interaction available through social media like Twitter.

They not only had lunch but ended up spending multiple days together hanging out, working out and attending events together. It’s really amazing.  I won’t try to recap the entire thing but suffice it to say that with something like twitter you really break down the degrees of separation between individuals.  This can be for good (as with this story) or bad  (if you make dumb comment and get flamed or worse).  Just be conscious of what and when you post.
